Project Description

CASA JAVIER

The vision becomes a reality; our first home

After taking in a couple of kids to provide them with housing and education, the movement took root with the purchase of Casa Javier in April 1997. Located in the Breña neighborhood, Casa Javier houses up to eight young men, the oldest boys in the program who are studying in university.

The residents share bedrooms in pairs, work on homework in a common study room, and take turns cooking meals for the house. The boys are able to develop relationships of support and mutuality as they take care of the house and each other.

I am 12 years old and just finished primary level studies. I am a good student and get good grades, hoping to become an engineer. I love playing ping pong and soccer.

Founder

Paul Lammermeier

Paul LammermeierWith a life-long vocation to teaching and a call to serve children who are in need in Peru, I left my native Ohio in 1988 and started to teach at the Colegio San Francisco Javier. I quickly recognized a need for many children in Lima to have a home, so I responded. I did not set out to create something big, but saw a need for children to have a warm home, supportive people in their lives, and quality education. From this response came a greater movement and our ability to help transform these young lives.

Director

Diego Vilela

I was born in Breña, Lima. I was a student of Education at the Antonio Ruiz de Montoya University. I worked at the Youth Shelter “Don Bosco” of Salecians. Thanks to my training as Salecian I had the capacity to analysed and solve problems. That’s why on 2010 I had the opportunity to joined Casa Javier as house assistant for young adults.

I consider myself as a proactive, creative, eficent, honest and leading person. Because of my constant work since 2016, the board of directors decided to promote me as the Director of the house until now. I’m very gratefull to Casa Javier because here I had the possibility to learn a lot and to strength my skills as tutor of young adults. Currently we are going to get in a course to continue learning and give our childrens and young adults the best accompaniment.
